SkyHub is SPH Engineering's drone onboard computer that logs geotagged data from sensors such as GPR, altimeters, magnetometers, echo sounders and methane detectors. It is for survey and geophysics teams, and HobiTech supplies it in India.

Technical

Packaging 21 × 29 × 11cm, 1.0kg in a cardboard box
Default mounting DJI M300/M350 RTK (other drones on request)

What is SkyHub used for?

SkyHub sits between the drone's flight controller and the payload. It powers the sensor, reads its data, and records every reading with the drone's position and time, so the survey data is geo-referenced from the start. SPH Engineering describes it as an onboard computer that extends commercial drones for industrial sensing and automation.

All mission data is recorded offline on the drone in standard formats, including CSV, SEG-Y and NMEA-0183. No cloud or internet connection is needed. SkyHub also runs True Terrain Following, which uses an altimeter to hold the drone at a constant, low height over the ground, as low as 0.5 m according to SPH Engineering.

SPH lists these sensor types for SkyHub: ground penetrating radar, magnetometers, echo sounders, methane detectors, metal detectors, gamma-ray spectrometers and side-scan sonar. Each sensor type needs its own SkyHub software package.

What are the SkyHub interfaces and power specifications?

Item SkyHub specification
Ethernet 1 × 10/100 Mbit
RS-232 2 ports
UART 4 ports

Which drones does SkyHub work with?

  • DJI Enterprise: M400, M350 RTK and M300 RTK, through the DJI PSDK connector.
  • Cube / Pixhawk drones: SPH lists the InspiredFlight IF1200A and IF800, Wispr Ranger Pro, Harris Aerial H6, Skyfront Perimeter 8, DroneBase X4-1000, Hexadrone Tundra, Avartek Boxer and other PX4/ArduCopter drones.

By default, SPH ships SkyHub with mountings and cables for the DJI M300/M350 RTK. For the M400, add the SkyHub 3 smart cable assembly for DJI M400. The SkyHub 3 cable for DJI M300/M350 RTK is also sold separately. Mounts and cables for other drones are available on request.

What do you need to run SkyHub?

SPH Engineering notes that SkyHub should not be ordered on its own. It is only useful with a sensor kit and a software package. A typical system has:

A protective box for SkyHub and the TTF kit is available for transport.

Why buy SkyHub from HobiTech?

HobiTech is an authorised SPH Engineering partner based in Bengaluru, India. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and our local team supports the sensor, the drone and the software together. We also offer SPH training courses, including UgCS and True Terrain Following training.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does SkyHub do on a survey drone?

It powers the sensor, logs its data with position and time, and records everything offline on board. It also runs True Terrain Following with an altimeter.

Can I buy SkyHub on its own?

SPH Engineering advises against it. SkyHub is only useful with a sensor and the matching software package, so it is normally quoted as part of a complete system.

Which DJI drones is SkyHub compatible with?

The DJI M400, M350 RTK and M300 RTK. It ships with M300/M350 RTK mountings and cables by default; for the M400, SPH offers a separate SkyHub 3 smart cable assembly.

What voltage does SkyHub need?

It takes 12–60 V from the drone's main battery and can supply 9, 12, 15 or 18 V to the sensor, up to 5 A.

Does SkyHub need an internet connection?

No. All mission data is recorded offline in standard formats such as CSV, SEG-Y and NMEA-0183.

How do I buy SkyHub in India?

Use Request a quote on this page, or call HobiTech on +91 70225 26509. We confirm the price and configuration, and every order comes with a GST invoice.
