Requires SkyHub onboard computer and UgCS license

What is the SkyHub GPR package used for?

This package lets a drone carry a ground penetrating radar and record usable, geo-referenced data. It contains two parts, as SPH Engineering describes it: firmware for the SkyHub on-board computer, and a companion application for UgCS, SPH's mission-planning software.

On the drone, SkyHub reads the radar and logs each trace with position and time. Typical jobs include utility mapping, locating buried objects, and surveys of ground that is hard or unsafe to walk. You plan and fly the mission in UgCS and check the payload from the ground station.

What do you need to run it?

SPH Engineering states that this package requires SkyHub and a UgCS licence. A complete drone GPR system usually has:

Why does terrain following matter for drone GPR?

SPH Engineering lists GPR among the sensors that need a constant distance between the sensor and the surface. SkyHub True Terrain Following does this with a live altimeter reading, and SPH states it works as low as 0.5 m above the surface. It is sold as a separate package. See SPH's drone GPR technology page for background.

Why buy the SkyHub GPR package from HobiTech?

HobiTech is an Official Partner of SPH Engineering based in Bengaluru, India. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and our local team supports the radar, the drone and the software together. SPH's GPR training course is also available through HobiTech.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the SkyHub software package for GPR?

Firmware for the SkyHub on-board computer and a companion application for UgCS. It is software only; the SkyHub hardware and the radar are bought separately.

Which ground penetrating radars does it support?

Radar Systems Zond Aero and Zond-12e, and Radarteam Cobra Plug-In and Cobra CBD.

Do I need SkyHub hardware to use it?

Yes. SPH Engineering states that the package requires SkyHub and a UgCS licence.

Which drones can carry a SkyHub GPR system?

SkyHub supports the DJI M400, M350 RTK and M300 RTK, plus Cube/Pixhawk drones running PX4 or ArduCopter. Check the radar's own mount before choosing a drone.

Should I add True Terrain Following?

SPH Engineering lists GPR as a main use for True Terrain Following, which uses an altimeter to keep a constant, low height over the ground. It is a separate package.
