The SkyHub software package for echo sounder adds single- and dual-frequency EchoLogger echo sounder support to SPH Engineering's SkyHub, with a UgCS companion app. It is for drone bathymetry teams, and HobiTech supplies it in India.

Bathymetric survey data loggingReal-time depth data on the ground station

Technical

Supported echo sounders EchoLogger ECT 400; ECT D24, D052, D032
Data logging formats CSV, NMEA-0183, SEG-Y

What is the SkyHub echo sounder package used for?

This package turns a drone with SkyHub into a bathymetric survey system. The echo sounder is carried by the drone over the water, and SkyHub records depth readings with position and time. Typical jobs include depth surveys of reservoirs, ponds, rivers and canals.

SPH Engineering describes the package as firmware for the SkyHub on-board computer plus a companion application for UgCS. The implemented features are:

  • Echo sounder configuration.
  • Data logging in CSV, NMEA-0183 and SEG-Y formats.
  • Real-time depth data view on the ground station.

Which echo sounders does it support?

EchoLogger model Type At HobiTech
ECT 400 Single-frequency EchoLogger ECT 400S
ECT D24 Dual-frequency EchoLogger ECT D24S
ECT D052 Dual-frequency EchoLogger ECT D052S
ECT D032 Dual-frequency On request

What do you need to run it?

SPH notes that the LightWare SF30/D laser altimeter is less reliable over reflective surfaces such as water, and its manual advises a target altitude of no more than 10 m above water with that altimeter. Ask us which altimeter suits your site.

Because SkyHub logs the depth data in standard formats (CSV, NMEA-0183 and SEG-Y), you can open it in the processing or GIS software your team already uses. All data is stored on board, so no internet connection is needed at the survey site.

How does SkyHub collect depth points?

SkyHub supports a Grasshopper mode. SPH Engineering describes it as precise, point-based descents to a set height for data collection, before the drone returns to flight altitude. It is useful for bathymetric surveys and sampling. Read more on SPH's drone echo sounder technology page.

Why buy the SkyHub echo sounder package from HobiTech?

HobiTech is an authorised SPH Engineering partner based in Bengaluru, India. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and our local team supports the sensor, the drone and the software together. SPH's bathymetry training course is also available through HobiTech.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the SkyHub echo sounder package?

Firmware for the SkyHub on-board computer and a companion application for UgCS. The SkyHub hardware and the echo sounder are bought separately.

Which echo sounders are supported?

EchoLogger ECT 400 (single-frequency) and ECT D24, D052 and D032 (dual-frequency).

What data formats does it log?

CSV, NMEA-0183 and SEG-Y.

Can I see depth readings during the flight?

Yes. The package shows real-time depth data on the ground station.

Do I need SkyHub and UgCS?

Yes. The package is firmware for SkyHub plus a UgCS companion app, so it needs both the SkyHub hardware and a UgCS licence.

How do I buy the SkyHub echo sounder package in India?

Use Request a quote on this page, or call HobiTech on +91 70225 26509. We confirm the price and configuration, and every order comes with a GST invoice.
