What is the SkyHub protective box used for?

A SkyHub True Terrain Following (TTF) set-up has several separate parts: the on-board computer, an altimeter and cables. SPH Engineering describes this box as a protective, storage and transportation box for SkyHub, the altimeter and cables, so the whole kit is kept together in one case between jobs.

What goes into a SkyHub TTF kit?

The box is built for the parts of a True Terrain Following set-up. The parts of a TTF set-up, from SPH Engineering's listings, are:

When choosing the altimeter, note SPH Engineering's two limits. For 24 GHz radar altimeters, it is the customer's responsibility to check whether they may be used in their country. The laser altimeter can be used anywhere, but is less reliable over reflective surfaces such as water, ice, snow and sand under bright sun.

SkyHub terrain following works as low as 0.5 m above ground, according to SPH Engineering. Read more on SPH's official SkyHub page.

Which surveys use SkyHub and TTF?

SkyHub logs data from ground penetrating radar, magnetometers, echo sounders, methane detectors, metal detectors, gamma-ray spectrometers and side-scan sonar. TTF keeps these sensors at a steady, low height. All mission data is recorded offline on the drone in standard formats such as CSV, SEG-Y and NMEA-0183, so no internet connection is needed in the field. SPH's UgCS training courses, including Area Scan and True Terrain Following, are also available through HobiTech.
