What are the MagDrone R3 mountings used for?
The SENSYS MagDrone R3 is a drone magnetometer with two triaxial fluxgate sensors at the ends of a 1 m horizontal bar. SPH Engineering mounts the R3 on the legs of the drone. These plastic mountings are SPH's parts for doing that on DJI enterprise drones. One order is a pair, enough to hold the sensor bar on the drone.
The R3 is used for UXO search, environmental surveys, archaeology, locating buried metal pipes and cables, and geological mapping. For these jobs the sensor flies very low, so it has to sit firmly and in a known position on the aircraft.
SPH Engineering recommends flying at 1 m above the surface or lower for UXO search, with a terrain-following system, because detection range is short: from about 0.5 m for a hand grenade to several metres for large ordnance. A secure mount keeps the sensor bar steady at that height, pass after pass.
Which DJI drones do they fit?
SPH Engineering makes two versions of the mounting pair. Choose your drone in the Drone option on this page before you request a quote.
| Version | Drones | SPH part number |
|---|---|---|
| DJI M400 | DJI M400 | IS-ACCS-MTG-SENSYS-R3-4DJI-1 |
| DJI M350/M300 RTK | DJI M350 RTK, DJI M300 RTK | IS-ACCS-MTG-SENSYS-R3-4DJI-2 |
The MagDrone R3 is also listed for non-DJI drones such as the Inspired Flight IF800 and IF1200A. These mountings are for the DJI models above only; ask HobiTech about other platforms.
What else do you need to fly the MagDrone R3?
- Magnetometer: the SENSYS MagDrone R3. Its kit includes a mounting plate and screws, a battery and charger, and a cable for SkyHub's GPS-out interface.
- Onboard computer: SkyHub with its mountings for DJI M300/M350 RTK.
- Power: the optional MagDrone R3 power cable runs the R3 from SkyHub (set to 12 V), so no separate battery is needed.
- Terrain following: the SkyHub True Terrain Following package with a laser or radar altimeter. SPH recommends about 1 m above ground, 2 m line spacing and speeds up to 8 m/s for the R3.
- Flight planning: UgCS EXPERT.

Why buy the R3 mountings from HobiTech?
HobiTech is an authorised SPH Engineering partner based in Bengaluru, India. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and our local team supports the sensor, the drone and the software. SPH's magnetometer training courses are also available through HobiTech.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do the MagDrone R3 mountings do?
They attach the SENSYS MagDrone R3 sensor bar to the legs of a DJI M400, M350 RTK or M300 RTK drone.
How many mountings are in one order?
One pair. SPH Engineering prices the mountings as a pair.
Is there a different version for the DJI M400?
Yes. SPH makes one version for the DJI M400 and another for the DJI M350/M300 RTK. Select it in the Drone option on this page.
Are the mountings included with the MagDrone R3?
No. The R3 kit includes a mounting plate and screws, but these drone-leg mountings for DJI drones are sold separately.
Do the mountings fit non-DJI drones?
SPH lists them for the DJI M400, M350 RTK and M300 RTK only. For the Inspired Flight IF800 or IF1200A, ask HobiTech first.
