SPH Engineering cable that powers the SENSYS MagDrone R3 magnetometer from SkyHub, so the R3 needs no separate battery in flight. For drone magnetometer surveys on the DJI M300 RTK and similar. HobiTech supplies it in India.
Technical
| Connector (SkyHub side) | XT30 plug |
| Connector (MagDrone R3 side) | MagDrone R3 power connector |
| Required SkyHub output setting | 12V |
What is the MagDrone R3 power cable used for?
The SENSYS MagDrone R3 can run on its own 11.1 V, 1,950 mAh Li-Ion battery or on power from the drone. This cable takes power from the SkyHub onboard computer to the R3, which removes the need for an additional battery on the sensor. SPH Engineering notes this is especially convenient on the DJI M300 RTK, whose batteries are hot-swappable: SkyHub is powered from the drone's main battery, so the magnetometer runs on the drone's power.
With the cable you have one less battery to charge, track and fit before each flight. It also saves the time spent swapping a sensor battery in the middle of a survey day.
How do you connect it to SkyHub?
The cable has an XT30 plug on the SkyHub end and the MagDrone R3 power connector on the other. SPH Engineering states that the output power selector on SkyHub must be set to 12V to power the MagDrone R3. Check this setting before you connect the sensor.
| SkyHub power detail (per SPH) | Value |
|---|---|
| Input voltage from the drone's main battery | 12–60 V |
| Fixed outputs on communication connectors | +5 V and +12 V |
| Configurable power connector | 9, 12, 15 or 18 V, 5 A maximum load |
| Setting needed for MagDrone R3 | 12 V |
What else do you need for an R3 drone survey?
- Magnetometer: the SENSYS MagDrone R3, with two triaxial fluxgate sensors on a 1 m horizontal bar. Its kit already includes a cable for SkyHub's GPS-out interface; this power cable is sold separately.
- Mountings: MagDrone R3 plastic mountings for the DJI M400, M350 RTK or M300 RTK.
- Onboard computer: SkyHub with SkyHub mountings.
- Terrain following: the SkyHub True Terrain Following package with a laser or radar altimeter. SPH recommends flying the R3 at about 1 m above ground, with 2 m line spacing and speeds up to 8 m/s.
- Flight planning: UgCS EXPERT.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the MagDrone R3 power cable do?
It powers the SENSYS MagDrone R3 from SkyHub, so you do not need a separate battery on the magnetometer during flight.
What voltage should SkyHub output for the R3?
SPH Engineering states that SkyHub's output power selector must be set to 12 V to power the MagDrone R3.
What connectors does the cable have?
An XT30 plug on the SkyHub side and the MagDrone R3 power connector on the sensor side.
Is the power cable included with the MagDrone R3?
No. The R3 kit includes a battery, charger, USB cable and a cable for SkyHub's GPS-out interface. The power cable is a separate item.
Can I still use the R3's own battery?
Yes. The R3 runs on its 11.1 V Li-Ion battery or on power from the drone. The cable is for flights where SkyHub supplies the power.
