Documentation & data sets

What is the MagDrone R4 used for?

The MagDrone R4 carries five triaxial fluxgate sensors along a 2 m bar. Unlike the MagDrone R3, it is designed for high-resolution mapping of small, compact objects and structures in the ground. SPH Engineering positions the R4 for maximum spatial resolution and coverage in a single drone pass. Typical jobs:

  • Searching for UXO (unexploded ordnance)
  • Archaeology
  • Finding buried metal objects of a few hundred grams or heavier

The sensors must fly as low as possible. SPH recommends 1 m above the surface or lower for UXO search, with a terrain-following system. Magnetometers cannot detect most types of modern landmines, and SPH states they must never be used to confirm that an area is clear. They can confirm the presence of ferrous UXO during Non-Technical and Technical Surveys.

What makes the R4 different from the R3?

MagDrone R3 MagDrone R4
Fluxgate sensors 2 5
Sensor bar 1 m 2 m
Minimum drone payload 1 kg 2 kg
Power Own battery or drone power Drone power
SPH suggested line spacing (UXO) 2 m 2.5 m
SPH suggested speed Up to 8 m/s Up to 6 m/s

SENSYS notes that the R4's folding mechanism can halve the sensor distance, so you can choose a wider track or denser data. The R4 uses the drone's GPS for direct geo-referencing, and an additional GPS unit is available if needed. Compare all drone magnetometers.

What do you need to run the MagDrone R4?

For UXO and environmental work, SPH suggests a drone height of about 1 m above ground. More detail is on SPH Engineering's magnetometer technology page.

Why buy the MagDrone R4 from HobiTech?

HobiTech is an authorised SPH Engineering partner based in Bengaluru, India. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and our local team supports the sensor, the drone and the software. SPH's magnetometer training courses are also available through HobiTech.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sensors does the MagDrone R4 have?

Five SENSYS FGM3D/75 triaxial fluxgate sensors on a 2 m sensor bar, with a dynamic range of ±75,000 nT.

What payload does the MagDrone R4 need?

A drone that can carry 2 kg. SPH lists the R4 at 1.4 kg, for the DJI M350 RTK, M300 RTK, Inspired Flight IF800 and IF1200A.

Does the MagDrone R4 have its own battery?

No. It takes power from the drone, and the kit includes a power supply cable.

Does the R4 stream live data to the ground station?

No. Data is stored on the unit and prepared with the included MagDrone Data Tool after the flight.

Can the MagDrone R4 find landmines?

Not reliably. SPH states that magnetometers cannot detect most modern landmines and must not be used to confirm the absence of ordnance.

How do I buy the MagDrone R4 in India?

Use Request a quote on this page, or call HobiTech on +91 70225 26509. We confirm the price and configuration, and every order comes with a GST invoice.
