What is the mono-static terrestrial kit used for?
It turns the airborne Zond Aero LF into a ground GPR. The Zond Aero LF is an extra-lightweight, low-frequency radar for medium-sized drones, and it reaches up to 20 m in average normal soil when flown. With this kit you can use the same radar on foot, for example on sites where flying is not possible.
In a mono-static setup one antenna both sends and receives the signal. It is the simpler, lighter way to run the LF on the ground: you carry the radar on the handle and the control unit in a belt bag.
Mono-static or bi-static: which kit do you need?
| Mono-static kit (this product) | Bi-static kit | |
|---|---|---|
| Antennas | Single antenna sends and receives | Separate external transmitter with its own dipole antenna set |
| Frame | Handle for Zond Aero LF | Metallic handle-frame holding receiver and transmitter |
| Control unit | Built-in Li-Ion battery, Wi-Fi router and controls | Built-in Li-Ion battery, Wi-Fi router and controls |
| Packed size and weight | 21 × 51 × 43 cm, 6.2 kg | 26 × 112 × 18 cm, 9 kg |
Choose the mono-static kit for the smaller, lighter setup (6.2 kg packed). Choose the bi-static kit if you want the transmitter and receiver separated on one frame, which SPH Engineering offers as the second ground configuration for the LF.
What do you need to run it?
- A Zond Aero LF GPR. The kit does not include the radar. The LF ships with 100, 150 and 300 MHz dipole sets, Prism 2 software, a transport case and a DJI M300/M350 RTK mounting kit.
- Optional antenna: the 50 MHz antenna for Zond Aero LF for deeper targets.
- Processing software: Prism 2 comes with the radar, and SPH Engineering also names GeoHammer Pro for GPR post-processing. See all GPR software.
- For drone flights: the SkyHub on-board computer with the SkyHub GPR software package, which supports Zond Aero systems.
The Zond Aero 500, 600 and 1000 use a wheeled GPR cart for ground work instead. Browse the full ground penetrating radar range, or read SPH Engineering's GPR technology page, which lists the mono-static and bi-static terrestrial kits for the Zond Aero LF.
Why buy the Zond Aero LF terrestrial kit from HobiTech?
HobiTech is an authorised SPH Engineering partner based in Bengaluru, India. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and you get a local team for the sensor, the drone and the software. SPH-certified GPR training is available through HobiTech.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this kit include the Zond Aero LF radar?
No. It is an accessory kit for an existing Zond Aero LF. It adds the handle, control unit, belt bag, charger and cables.
What does mono-static mean?
One antenna both transmits and receives. In the bi-static kit, a separate external transmitter is used.
How is the control unit powered?
It has a built-in Li-Ion battery, and it also contains a Wi-Fi router and the controls. A charger is included.
Can I use the wheeled Zond GPR cart with the Zond Aero LF?
No. SPH Engineering lists the cart for the Zond Aero 500, 600 and 1000. The LF uses the mono-static or bi-static terrestrial kit.
How large is the kit when packed?
It comes in a 19 × 50 × 41 cm plastic box weighing 5.8 kg, shipped in a 21 × 51 × 43 cm carton at 6.2 kg.
