What is the Zond GPR cart used for?
It lets you use your Zond Aero radar on the ground as well as in the air. The cart is a light, compact and shockproof trolley made of durable plastic, designed for surveys on asphalt, concrete and other hard surfaces. Typical jobs are utility and infrastructure mapping on roads, car parks, industrial yards and other paved sites where flying is not practical or not allowed.
One radar can then cover two kinds of work: open ground and large areas from a drone, and detailed lines on paved sites on foot. SPH Engineering describes its Zond Aero 500 NG as suitable for drone, cart or tow-rope surveys.
Which GPR systems does the cart work with?
| System | Works with this cart |
|---|---|
| Zond Aero 500 NG | Yes |
| Zond Aero 600 NG | Yes |
| Zond Aero 1000 NG | Yes |
| Zond-12e Drone 500A / 1000A | Yes |
| Zond Aero LF | No: use the mono-static or bi-static terrestrial survey kit |
The low-frequency Zond Aero LF uses dipole antennas and has its own ground kits: the mono-static terrestrial survey kit and the bi-static terrestrial survey kit.
What is included, and what do you add?
- Included: the cart with its built-in magnetic encoder (odometer) at 1000 pulses per revolution, and a 5/8-inch thread male adapter for mounting a GPS receiver.
- Not included: the GPR itself, and the zBELL RTK GNSS receiver. The zBELL appears in SPH Engineering's product photos, but it is sold separately.
The encoder measures distance travelled along each line, so traces are evenly spaced even if your walking speed changes. Add the zBELL when you also need each trace placed on a map; it gives 1 cm + 1 ppm accuracy in RTK mode.
The cart weighs 12 kg and ships in a 106 × 72 × 47 cm box weighing 17.6 kg. Prism 2 software comes with Zond systems, and SPH Engineering also names GeoHammer Pro for GPR post-processing; see all GPR software and the full ground penetrating radar range. SPH Engineering's GPR technology page lists the terrestrial carts and kits for each Zond system.
Why buy the Zond GPR cart from HobiTech?
HobiTech is an authorised SPH Engineering partner based in Bengaluru, India. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and you get a local team for the sensor, the drone and the software. SPH-certified GPR training is available through HobiTech.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the cart fit the Zond Aero LF?
No. SPH Engineering lists the cart for the Zond Aero 500, 600 and 1000. The Zond Aero LF uses its own mono-static or bi-static terrestrial survey kit.
Does the cart include a GPS receiver?
No. It has a 5/8-inch thread adapter for one. The zBELL RTK GNSS receiver is sold separately.
What does the built-in encoder do?
It is a magnetic odometer with 1000 pulses per revolution that measures distance along the survey line, so the radar records traces at even spacing.
Which surfaces is the cart designed for?
Asphalt, concrete and other hard surfaces.
How heavy is the cart?
12 kg. It ships in a 106 × 72 × 47 cm box with a packed weight of 17.6 kg.
How do I buy the GPR cart for Zond GPR systems in India?
