What is the MALÅ GeoDrone 600 used for?

The MALÅ GeoDrone 600 is designed for drone GPR surveys in remote, hazardous or hard-to-reach areas, such as snow-covered ground, rocky and uneven terrain, rivers and avalanche-prone slopes. It uses Guideline Geo's MALÅ HDR GPR technology and suits utility search, archaeology, geotechnical surveys, geological stratigraphy and glaciology.

  • Depth: up to 4 m from the ground in average normal soil. Guideline Geo lists smaller (<1 m) buried targets and layers at 2 to 4 m depth.
  • Flying height: SPH recommends 1 to 1.5 m or less for 500 to 600 MHz antennas.
  • Sampling: 7680 MHz sample rate, with up to 1213 samples per trace.
  • Power: a single 10.8 V smart battery for 1+ hours of operation, or optional external power at 9–32 VDC.

How does it work on the drone?

Unlike the Zond Aero systems, the GeoDrone 600 has its own battery, data logger and GNSS connector, so it can run on its own. It includes an ANN-MS GNSS antenna and supports DGPS (SBAS) and PPS for synchronising with an external RTK GNSS after the survey. You monitor data wirelessly in real time with the MALÅ Controller App on an Android device. Guideline Geo's MALÅ Motion Trig mode is designed for drone measurements, alongside wheel, time and keyboard triggering. Data is processed in MALÅ Vision, available as Vision Web (cloud) and Vision Desktop (offline).

The kit includes a payload mounting kit, and the system weighs 2.7 kg in operation, so your drone needs to lift more than that. Plan automated flights in UgCS; UgCS EXPERT adds Smart AGL terrain following.

What do you need to run it?

SPH Engineering notes that additional components and software must be ordered for drone use. Talk to HobiTech about a complete set for your drone. Related products:

Frequently Asked Questions

How deep can the MALÅ GeoDrone 600 see?

Up to 4 m in average normal soil. SPH quotes 1 to 2 m penetration when flown from a drone.

Which drones can carry the GeoDrone 600?

It is sized for medium drones such as the DJI M400 and M350/M300 RTK. Guideline Geo says it works with standard drones that can lift more than 2.7 kg.

How long does the battery last?

The 10.8 V smart battery gives 1+ hours of operation. External power at 9–32 VDC is optional.

Does it need SkyHub?

No. It has a built-in battery, data logger and GNSS connector, and is controlled with the MALÅ Controller App.

What is the IP rating and operating temperature?

IP65, with an operating range of -20°C to 50°C.

How do I buy the MALÅ GeoDrone 600 in India?
