What is the bi-static terrestrial survey kit used for?

The Zond Aero LF is a low-frequency drone GPR from Radar Systems, sold in SPH Engineering's Integrated Systems range. SPH Engineering offers two terrestrial survey kits so the same GPR can also be used on the ground: a mono-static kit and this bi-static kit. One GPR can then cover both airborne and on-foot surveys.

In a bi-static set-up the transmitter and the receiver are separate units. This kit adds an external transmitter with its own set of dipoles, and a metallic handle-frame that carries both the Zond Aero LF and the external transmitter. A control unit with a built-in lithium-ion battery, Wi-Fi router and controls runs the survey on foot.

The kit is an accessory. It does not include the Zond Aero LF GPR itself, which you order separately.

How does it compare with the mono-static kit?

What do you need to run it?

  • The GPR: a Zond Aero LF. It comes with 100, 150 and 300 MHz centre-frequency antennas and Prism 2 acquisition and processing software. SPH Engineering says the system has been tested with antennas in the 50 to 400 MHz range.
  • Optional deeper antenna: the 50 MHz antenna set, with two 1.5 m dipoles.
  • Processing software: the Zond Aero LF records standard SEG-Y (.sgy) data, which GeoHammer and GeoHammer Pro can import. See all GPR software.

For drone work with the same GPR you also need SPH's SkyHub on-board computer and a UgCS licence. Browse the full ground penetrating radar range, or read SPH Engineering's GPR technology page.

Why buy the bi-static kit from HobiTech?

HobiTech is an authorised SPH Engineering partner based in Bengaluru, India. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and our local team supports the sensor, the drone and the software. SPH's GPR training courses are also available through HobiTech.
