What is the MS-100 used for?
A gamma-ray spectrometer measures the energy and intensity of gamma rays from radioactive substances, and each isotope has its own energy signature. Medusa Radiometrics describes the MS-100 as its smallest sensor, suitable only for areas where higher radiation levels are expected. Its main use is anthropogenic mapping: finding radiation that people put there, such as a lost radioactive source, rather than mapping the natural radioactivity of soil and rock.
For natural-radiation work such as mineral exploration or soil mapping, a larger crystal collects more counts and gives better data. That is what the MS-350 and MS-700 are for.
MS-100, MS-350 or MS-700?
| Model | CsI crystal | Weight | Survey speed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MS-100 | 100 ml | 1.5 kg | Up to 10 km/h | Higher-radiation areas, lost sources |
| MS-350 | 350 ml | 2.7 kg | Up to 15 km/h | Soil, mineral and contamination mapping |
| MS-700 | 700 ml | 4.7 kg | Up to 20 km/h | Larger and faster radiometric surveys |

How does the MS-100 fly with SkyHub and UgCS?
SPH Engineering integrates Medusa sensors with the SkyHub onboard computer, which logs the readings with position during the flight, and with UgCS flight planning, which keeps altitude and line spacing consistent; see our UgCS page. Medusa's mDOS software handles the sensor, and data is saved as JSON, NMEA or CSV. Browse all gamma-ray spectrometers and the wider Integrated Systems range.
Why buy the MS-100 from HobiTech?
HobiTech is an Official Partner of SPH Engineering based in Bengaluru, India. We quote the complete system — sensor, mountings, SkyHub and flight planning — with a GST invoice, and our local team supports it after delivery. SPH training courses are also available through HobiTech.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the MS-100 designed to find?
Radiation from human activity in areas where higher levels are expected, such as lost radioactive sources. Medusa Radiometrics states that this is its primary use case.
Can the MS-100 be used for mineral exploration?
Medusa describes it as suitable only for higher-radiation areas. For natural radioactivity in soil and rock, the MS-350 or MS-700 is the better choice.
How much does the MS-100 weigh?
1.5 kg, with a sensor measuring 100 mm in diameter and 166 mm in length.
Does it identify isotopes?
Yes. Medusa states that isotope identification in accordance with ANSI N42.34-2021 is supported, and online radionuclide analysis is available on request.
How do I buy the MS-100 in India?
Use Request a quote on this page, or call HobiTech on +91 70225 26509. We confirm the price and configuration, and every order comes with a GST invoice.
