The Practical Exam & Certification for the methane detector is SPH Engineering's hands-on test of gathering, processing and understanding drone methane leak detection data. It suits trained operators and surveyors, and HobiTech coordinates enrolment in India.
How it works
- After successful payment, the exam is unlocked for your account in the Academy of SPH Engineering platform.
- Once enrolled, you can complete it at your own pace.
- After successfully passing, you receive a certificate from SPH Engineering that can be shared on LinkedIn.
What does the methane detector exam test?
The exam verifies hands-on skills and experience in gathering, processing and understanding methane leak detection data collected with systems supplied by SPH Engineering. According to the SPH Engineering Academy exam page, the exam includes:
- Analysis and evaluation of the data you provide by one of SPH Engineering's trainers
- Written recommendations prepared by the trainer
- A 1-hour Zoom session to discuss the results
- A maximum of 2 iterations
After you pass, SPH Engineering issues a certificate that you can share on LinkedIn.
Who should take the exam?
SPH Engineering names 3 groups of candidates:
- People who attended the SPH Engineering course Methane leak detection using drone
- People who learned about the solution from other sources
- Experienced surveyors who want to confirm their expertise
If you still need training, start with the self-study methane leak detection course or the trainer-led methane course, which covers mounting the Laser Falcon detector, survey parameters, mission planning and a field exercise. Methane missions rely on UgCS terrain following, so the UgCS training courses are useful too. All SPH exams are listed on our certification page.
What hardware and software does the exam relate to?
SPH Engineering's drone methane system combines a laser methane detector, the SkyHub onboard computer and UgCS flight planning. On its methane detection technology page, SPH describes the current Falcon Plus TDLAS detector. It uses tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS): the sensor emits a laser beam and measures the reflected energy, and a methane cloud absorbs part of that energy. SPH states that it reliably detects about 500 ppm from 40 m or more and 1000 ppm from 60 m or more, with a response time of 25 ms. The system works with drones such as the DJI M300, M350 and M600. UgCS shows methane readings to the pilot in real time, and DroneGIS processes the data into emission maps. Related products in our store:
