- Ground-level air sampling pipe
- Mountings for DJI M300/350 RTK (mounts for other drones available on request)
- SkyHub integration cables
What is the FluX Aero used for?
The FluX Aero is a methane sniffer. It measures the methane concentration in the air that reaches the sensor, down to 0.5 ppm, and reports a new value twice a second (2 Hz). That speed lets you fly quick aerial surveys without losing data quality. It is used for methane leak detection, plume mapping and quantification, and emissions monitoring at landfills and pipelines.
The sensor is self-calibrating, which keeps maintenance low. SPH Engineering also lists optional sampling to help identify non-biological leak sources. Depending on the configuration, it weighs as little as 0.9 kg. Its maker, SensorX Solutions, builds the FluX gas detection platform on tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) for selective methane detection.
Each kit includes the sensor with a short-range nozzle, a ground-level air sampling pipe, mountings for the DJI M300/350 RTK and the SkyHub integration cables. For the wider FluX platform, SensorX also lists wind speed and direction, temperature and humidity sensor options.
FluX Aero or Falcon Plus: which one do you need?
| Feature | FluX Aero (sniffer) | Falcon Plus (laser) |
|---|---|---|
| How it measures | Methane in the air at the sensor (ppm) | Methane along a laser beam, from 10 to 40 m away (ppm × m) |
| Sensitivity | Down to 0.5 ppm | 1 g/h flow rate (approx. 500 ppm); 0–100,000 ppm × m |
| Data rate | 2 Hz | 25 ms response time |
| Weight | From 0.9 kg | 360 g |
| Deployment | Drone, car, stationary | Drone, car, stationary |
Choose the Falcon Plus TDLAS methane detector to scan for leaks from a distance. Choose the FluX Aero to measure concentration inside a plume.
What do you need to run the FluX Aero?
- A compatible drone: the kit includes mountings for the DJI M300/M350 RTK, and SPH Engineering supplies mounts for other drones on request.
- A SkyHub onboard computer: the kit includes the SkyHub integration cables.
- UgCS flight-planning software: see our UgCS page.
- Optional: assembly and testing of the integrated system.
SPH's SkyHub software package for Methane detector lists Laser Falcon and LMC detectors, so confirm the SkyHub software setup for the FluX Aero with HobiTech before you order. Browse the full methane detection range.
Why buy the FluX Aero from HobiTech?
HobiTech is an authorised SPH Engineering partner based in Bengaluru, India. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and our local team supports the sensor, the drone and the software. SPH's methane detection training courses are also available through HobiTech. Read more on SPH Engineering's methane detection page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a methane sniffer?
A sniffer measures the methane in the air that reaches the sensor. The drone flies through or near the plume, unlike a laser detector that measures from a distance.
How accurate is the FluX Aero?
It measures methane concentration accurately down to 0.5 ppm and delivers values at 2 Hz.
How much does the FluX Aero weigh?
As little as 0.9 kg, depending on the configuration.
Which drones does it fit?
The kit includes mountings for the DJI M300/M350 RTK. Mounts for other drones are available on request.
Can it be used on a car or at a fixed site?
Yes. It is designed for drone-based, car-based and stationary measurements.
How do I buy the FluX Aero in India?
