Trainer-led GPR on a UAV (GPR-1) is SPH Engineering's live course on mounting, configuring and flying GPR on a drone. It is for Integrated Systems/GPR users with at least basic UgCS experience. HobiTech coordinates enrolment in India.
Training outline
- What is GPR
- Mounting the GPR on a drone
- Configuring GPR (for Zond radars)
- Planning of GPR drone survey missions
- Connecting to the UAV with GPR attached, displaying GPR trace in Custom Payload Monitor (CPM)
- Practical exercise (or remote support)
- Basic GPR data processing and interpretation in Prism 2 software
What is the trainer-led GPR-1 course?
This is training for users of Integrated Systems/GPR who already have at least basic UgCS experience. It is dedicated to GPR application on UAVs: from mounting and configuring the radar to planning the survey mission, watching the GPR trace live and processing the first data. According to SPH Engineering's product page, the session lasts up to 6 hours, the price covers up to 4 students, and the training can be given at the SPH Engineering office or over video conferencing software.
The course is delivered by SPH Engineering; HobiTech coordinates enrolment for customers in India. See SPH Engineering's trainer-led GPR-1 page for the current details.
What do you need before the training?
SPH Engineering sets clear prerequisites for this course:
- You have completed the UgCS AreaScan and True Terrain Following missions training, or have equivalent knowledge. See our UgCS training page for these courses.
- You have flown a True Terrain Following test mission in a safe, controlled environment.
- At the start of the session, the trainer reviews your telemetry and SkyHub positioning log files.
- If you cannot show completed missions, the trainer will cancel the session and reschedule it.
You also need the drone GPR system itself. On its GPR technology page, SPH lists Radar Systems Zond Aero radars flown on drones such as the DJI M400, M350, M300 and M600. The components are:
- A radar from our ground penetrating radar range, such as the Zond Aero 500 "NG" (about 1 to 2 m typical penetration, per SPH)
- The SkyHub software package for GPR, which logs GPR data with GNSS and altimeter data
- UgCS EXPERT for mission planning and terrain following
- GeoHammer Pro for processing after the flight
How does it fit with the other GPR courses?
The SPH GPR programme has 3 course levels, each offered as self-study or trainer-led:
| Course | Focus | Self-study | Trainer-led |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPR-1: GPR on a UAV | Planning, configuring and flying GPR surveys on a drone | GPR-1 self-study | This course |
| GPR-2: GPR Basics | Foundations of GPR signals, profiles and resolution | GPR-2 self-study | GPR-2 trainer-led |
| GPR-3: GPR Advanced Module | Signal propagation theory, data processing and interpretation | GPR-3 self-study | GPR-3 trainer-led |
SPH also offers a Practical Exam & Certification for GPR. See all options on our GPR training page or the full training and certification page.
Why buy GPR-1 training from HobiTech?
