GPR on a UAV (GPR-1) is SPH Engineering's self-study quick start for planning, configuring and flying drone GPR surveys. It suits beginners who plan to use GPR on a drone. HobiTech coordinates enrolment for customers in India.
How it works
- After successful payment, the course is unlocked for your account in the Academy of SPH Engineering platform.
- Once enrolled, you can finish at your own pace.
What does the GPR-1 self-study course cover?
This course is a quick start for GPR survey planning, configuration and execution. It explains the basics of preparing for a GPR survey and gives insight into planning a survey so the data answers your question. SPH Engineering describes it as designed for beginners and especially valuable for those planning to use GPR with UAVs. The SPH Engineering Academy course page lists these topics:
- Specifics of GPR usage on a UAV
- GPR survey flight safety aspects
- GPR estimation calculations
- Optimal GPR configuration for your survey targets
- GPR configuration in Prism 2
- GPR configuration in SkyHub
- GPR survey flight planning and execution
The course explains the key principles of GPR operation, flight safety and mission planning. You learn to configure a GPR system in Prism 2 and in SkyHub, estimate performance, and adapt the configuration to your survey target. The course is delivered by SPH Engineering; HobiTech coordinates enrolment for customers in India. See the GPR-1 course page on the SPH Engineering Academy for the current details.
Who should take GPR-1, and what comes next?
GPR-1 is a good first step if you have bought, or are about to buy, a drone GPR system and want to understand how to prepare a survey before you fly. According to the SPH Engineering Academy, a course completion certificate issued by SPH Engineering is available after you pass the self-assessment test.
The SPH GPR programme has 3 course levels, each offered as self-study or trainer-led:
| Course | Focus | Self-study | Trainer-led |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPR-1: GPR on a UAV | Planning, configuring and flying GPR surveys on a drone | This course | GPR-1 trainer-led |
| GPR-2: GPR Basics | Foundations of GPR signals, profiles and resolution | GPR-2 self-study | GPR-2 trainer-led |
| GPR-3: GPR Advanced Module | Signal propagation theory, data processing and interpretation | GPR-3 self-study | GPR-3 trainer-led |
If you are new to radar itself, GPR Basics (GPR-2) covers the fundamentals. When you want a formal assessment, SPH also offers the Practical Exam & Certification for GPR. See all options on our GPR training page or the full training and certification page.
What hardware and software does the course relate to?
The course is built around SPH Engineering's drone GPR integrated system. On its GPR technology page, SPH lists Radar Systems Zond Aero radars, including the Zond Aero 500 with a typical penetration of about 1 to 2 m, flown on drones such as the DJI M400, M350, M300 and M600. The parts you will meet in the course are:
- Ground penetrating radars, such as the Zond Aero 500 "NG"
- The SkyHub software package for GPR, which logs GPR data with GNSS and altimeter data on board
- UgCS EXPERT for flight planning and terrain following
- GeoHammer Pro for processing survey data after the flight
Why buy GPR-1 from HobiTech?
