What's in the kit

  • Electronics module
  • Search coil on foldable frame
  • Mounting and suspension system
  • Data and power cables
  • Rugged transportation case

What is the VEMOS AIR Mk2 used for?

The VEMOS AIR Mk2 is an electromagnetic impulse (EMI) sensor. It detects conductive materials, including non-ferrous metals, and finds smaller objects than magnetometer systems. It is used for:

  • Archaeological site surveys
  • Utility detection and mapping
  • UXO (unexploded ordnance) detection
  • Environmental contamination assessment
  • Forensic investigation and security operations

It replaces the Ebinger UPEX 740M, a large-loop pulse induction locator that Ebinger describes for finding ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys, such as pipelines, manholes, sewer shafts, underground dumps and UXO. The VEMOS AIR has been heavily modified to suit mid-sized drones.

The kit includes the electronics module, a search coil on a foldable frame, the mounting and suspension system, data and power cables, and a rugged transportation case. To see what the output looks like, SPH Engineering publishes a data example from its Balozi test field, linked under Documentation above.

What are its limits?

SPH Engineering is clear about two limits. The sensor cannot detect targets deeper than 2 metres, and it cannot detect landmines with minimal metal content. If you are unsure which sensor suits your targets, compare it with a drone magnetometer such as the GeoHammer PRO or browse our magnetometers.

What do you need to run the VEMOS AIR?

SPH Engineering notes that extra components and software must be ordered to use the sensor on a drone:

The sensor weighs 3.2 kg. It ships in a 25 × 145 × 75 cm rugged case, 28 kg on its own or 32 kg boxed. Browse the full metal detector range and the Integrated Systems collection.

Why buy the VEMOS AIR from HobiTech?

HobiTech is an Official Partner of SPH Engineering based in Bengaluru, India. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and our local team supports the sensor, the drone and the software. SPH training courses are also available through HobiTech. Read more on SPH Engineering's Integrated Systems page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How deep can the VEMOS AIR detect metal?

Down to 2 metres. It cannot detect targets deeper than that.

Does it detect non-ferrous metals?

Yes. As an EMI sensor it detects conductive materials, including non-ferrous conductors, and smaller objects than magnetometer systems.

Can it detect landmines?

It cannot detect landmines with minimal metal content.

Which drones can carry it?

SPH Engineering recommends the DJI M400, DJI M350/M300 RTK, Inspired Flight IF1200A or a similar mid-sized drone. The sensor weighs 3.2 kg.

What else do I need to fly it?

A SkyHub onboard computer, the SkyHub software package for Metal detector and a UgCS licence. HobiTech can quote the complete system.

How do I buy the VEMOS AIR in India?
