Mumbai has two operational international airports: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International and Navi Mumbai International, which began commercial flights in December 2025. With both, much of the MMR sits inside airport zones, so look up your exact spot on the Digital Sky airspace map before every flight.
For travel and casual flying, a nano drone of 250 g or less, such as the DJI Neo 2, needs registration but no Remote Pilot Certificate. Production and survey work usually means a heavier drone and a certified pilot, plus permission from the owner of any private property you film.

Where can I fly a drone in Mumbai?
Check the spot on the Digital Sky airspace map first. In a green zone you can fly up to 400 ft without permission. Near an operational airport the limit drops to 200 ft between 8 and 12 km from the perimeter, and between 5 and 8 km you need permission from air traffic control. Red zones need central government permission. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport are both operational, so check the map before flying anywhere in the MMR.
