The FT Technologies FT743 kit puts an acoustic resonance wind speed and direction sensor on a drone, so you can build vertical wind profiles from the ground up to several hundred metres in places that are hard to reach. HobiTech supplies it in India as an Official Partner of SPH Engineering.

What's in the kit

  • FT Technologies FT743-SM sensor
  • Mast for DJI M300/M350 RTK (mounts for other drones on request)
  • Cable to connect the sensor to the SkyHub onboard computer
  • Software for sensor data logging

What is the FT743 kit used for?

A drone can take the sensor to heights and places a ground mast cannot reach, and record how wind speed and direction change with height. SPH Engineering lists these typical applications:

  • Refining methane leak detection, as an auxiliary sensor alongside a methane detector
  • Wildfire fighting: safely collecting low-level wind data to predict how a fire will spread
  • Wind data collection on wind turbine farms, to optimise power generation
  • Environmental and climate studies in hard-to-reach areas

Why acoustic resonance?

The FT743 has no moving parts to fail or get damaged, so it withstands significant shock and vibration, which matters on a drone. Its hard anodised aluminium housing resists electromagnetic interference, corrosion, sand, dust and sunlight, and it is sealed to IP66.

How does it work with SkyHub and UgCS?

The kit needs the SkyHub onboard computer to log the data, and the cable in the kit connects the sensor to it. Through SkyHub the sensor works with a wide range of drones, including the DJI M350/M300 RTK and Pixhawk-based drones. UgCS flight planning flies the profile and keeps it repeatable; see our UgCS page. Browse the wider Integrated Systems range.

Why buy the FT743 kit from HobiTech?

HobiTech is an Official Partner of SPH Engineering based in Bengaluru, India. We quote the complete system with a GST invoice and our local team supports the sensor, the drone and the software. SPH training courses are also available through HobiTech.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need SkyHub?

Yes. SPH Engineering states that the kit requires the SkyHub onboard computer to log the data.

Which drones can carry it?

The kit includes a mast for the DJI M300/M350 RTK. Through SkyHub it also works with Pixhawk-based and other drones, and mounts for other drones are available on request.

How high can it profile the wind?

From the ground up to several hundred metres, depending on the drone and local flight rules.

Can I see sample data first?

Yes. SPH Engineering publishes a sample data set.

How do I buy the FT743 kit in India?

Use Request a quote on this page, or call HobiTech on +91 70225 26509. We confirm the price and configuration, and every order comes with a GST invoice.
