Why the DJI RC matters
Many DJI kits, such as the DJI Mini 4K Fly More Combo, use a controller that holds your phone as the screen. The DJI RC in this combo has its own 5.5-inch FHD screen with 700 nits brightness, per DJI. You do not need to install the app on your phone, plug in cables or worry about calls and notifications while you fly, and your phone battery stays free.
DJI Mini 3 or DJI Mini 4K?
Both weigh under 249 g, have a downward vision system and use DJI O2 transmission. Compared with the DJI Mini 4K Fly More Combo, the Mini 3 adds:
- A larger 1/1.3-inch 48 MP sensor at f/1.7 (the Mini 4K has a 1/2.3-inch 12 MP sensor at f/2.8).
- 4K HDR video and True Vertical Shooting (the Mini 4K has neither).
- Up to 38 minutes per battery (the Mini 4K flies up to 31 minutes).
- In this combo, the DJI RC with a built-in screen (the Mini 4K combo uses the DJI RC-N1C with your phone).
The DJI Mini 4K Fly More Combo is ₹67,990 plus GST. This DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo (DJI RC) is ₹84,990 plus GST. If you want better low-light footage, HDR and vertical video, and a screen controller, choose the Mini 3. If you want a 4K three-battery kit for less, the Mini 4K fits.
DJI Mini 3 or DJI Lito X1?
Both have a 1/1.3-inch 48 MP sensor at f/1.7 and weigh under 249 g. The DJI Lito X1 Fly More Combo (DJI RC 2) adds:
- Omnidirectional obstacle sensing with forward-facing LiDAR (the Mini 3 has downward vision only).
- 4K HDR at up to 60fps, 4K/100fps slow motion and 10-bit D-Log M.
- ActiveTrack and MasterShots (the Mini 3 has QuickShots and Panorama).
- 42 GB of internal storage, so no memory card is needed.
The Mini 3 flies a little longer, up to 38 minutes per battery against 36 for the Lito X1. The DJI Lito X1 Fly More Combo (DJI RC 2) is ₹88,990 plus GST. If you are new to flying and want obstacle sensing in every direction, the Lito X1 is worth the extra. If you fly in open spaces and want the longest flight time for less, the Mini 3 fits.
Who the Mini 3 Fly More Combo is for
- Beginners who fly in open spaces and want an easy, light drone
- Travellers who want three batteries, a charging hub and a bag in one kit
- Creators who want 4K HDR and vertical video for social media
- Anyone who wants a controller with its own screen instead of using their phone
- Anyone who wants to fly in India without a Remote Pilot Certificate
Choose something else if you want obstacle sensing in every direction (the DJI Lito X1 Fly More Combo (DJI RC 2) or the DJI Mini 4 Pro Fly More Combo (DJI RC 2)), or you want the lowest price for a 4K kit (the DJI Mini 4K Fly More Combo).
Is it legal to fly in India?
Yes. At 248 g takeoff weight with the standard battery (per DJI), the DJI Mini 3 is a nano drone (250 g or less) under India's Drone Rules, 2021:
- No Remote Pilot Certificate is needed to fly a nano drone (Rule 36).
- You must register it on the DGCA eGCA portal and get a Unique Identification Number (UIN) before flying (Rule 14).
- Before each flight, check the Digital Sky airspace map for green, yellow and red zones.
This combo uses the standard batteries. DJI also sells an Intelligent Flight Battery Plus (up to 51 minutes) in some regions, but with it the Mini 3 weighs about 290 g, per DJI, so it is no longer a nano drone.
Flying tips for the DJI Mini 3
HobiTech's tips for your first flights (general good practice; always follow the DJI user manual):
- Buy a microSD card with the drone. The Mini 3 has no internal storage, so it cannot record without a card.
- Charge everything the night before. Put the three batteries in the Two-Way Charging Hub and charge the DJI RC too.
- Update firmware at home. Update the drone and the DJI RC over Wi-Fi before you travel, and calibrate the compass if the app asks.
- Fly in open areas. The Mini 3 has no forward, backward or side obstacle sensing, so keep well clear of trees, buildings, wires and people, and keep the drone in sight.
- Wait for a strong GPS signal. Check the signal before take-off, so Return to Home knows where to come back to.
- Check the wind. DJI rates wind resistance up to 10.7 m/s. On gusty days, stay low and close, and land early.
- Register before you fly. Get the UIN on DGCA's eGCA portal before your first outdoor flight, and check the airspace map every time you fly somewhere new.
- Try vertical mode for reels. Switch to True Vertical Shooting in the camera settings when you want portrait video for social media.
- Land with charge to spare. Plan to be back and landed well before the battery runs low, especially if you are flying into a headwind.
- Check the propellers every time. Replace any propeller that is chipped, bent or cracked. Spare propellers come in the box.
- Let batteries cool before charging. After a flight, wait until the battery is no longer warm before you put it in the hub, and avoid leaving batteries in a hot car.
