Radar water-level and flow sensors for hydrology networks — Geolux LX-80 and related instruments for non-contact river monitoring.

Flown on a drone, these radars measure water level and surface velocity without anyone entering the water. In India they suit irrigation and water-resources departments, flood forecasting teams, hydropower and reservoir operators, and engineering consultants on water-supply projects.

How to choose a drone hydrology sensor

• Water level: the Geolux LX-80-AB is a 0.6 kg W-band (77–81 GHz) radar with a 40 m maximum range and 0.5 mm resolution, for river, channel, lake and reservoir levels and early flood warning.
• Flow velocity: the Geolux RSS-2-AB is a K-band (24.125 GHz) Doppler radar with a 15 m maximum range, for discharge monitoring in rivers and irrigation channels.
• Drone and positioning: both are flown through the SkyHub onboard computer; an RTK drone matters for level work.
• Planning: river profiles and hover points are planned in UgCS.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need both sensors?

Only if you need both level and flow. The LX-80-AB measures water-surface elevation; the RSS-2-AB measures surface velocity. Use both when a site needs level and flow data.

Which drones are supported?

The kits are listed for the DJI M350 RTK and M300 RTK and for Pixhawk-based drones, through SkyHub. Tell us your drone and we will confirm the cables and mounts.

Is this the same as bathymetry?

No. These radars measure the water surface. Depth to the bottom needs an echo sounder from our bathymetry range.

What does a system cost?

Each kit is quoted per configuration, because the drone, SkyHub and software change the total. Ask for the current lead time with your quote.
