Short answer: For aerial photography, the DJI Mavic 4 Pro is the clear upgrade: its 100 MP 4/3 Hasselblad camera, 6K/60fps HDR video, a sharper 50 MP 168 mm telephoto and a 360° Infinity Gimbal outclass the Mavic 3 Pro's 20 MP main camera and 12 MP tele. The Mavic 3 Pro remains a capable used or existing drone, but HobiTech now sells only the Mavic 4 Pro, from ₹3,39,990 before GST.

Key takeaways
- Main camera: 100 MP 4/3 CMOS at f/2.0–f/11 on the Mavic 4 Pro vs 20 MP 4/3 CMOS at f/2.8–f/11 on the Mavic 3 Pro.
- Telephoto: 50 MP 1/1.5-inch at 168 mm on the Mavic 4 Pro vs 12 MP 1/2-inch at 166 mm on the Mavic 3 Pro.
- Video: 6K/60fps HDR and 4K up to 120fps on the Mavic 4 Pro; 5.1K/50fps and DCI 4K up to 120fps on the Mavic 3 Pro.
- Flight and link: up to 51 minutes and O4+ (30 km FCC) vs up to 43 minutes and O3+ (15 km).
- Both are Micro-category drones in India (approx. 1,063 g and 958 g), so they need registration, and commercial work needs a DGCA Remote Pilot Certificate.

Two generations of triple-camera Mavic
DJI launched the Mavic 3 Pro in April 2023 as the first Mavic with three cameras: a Hasselblad wide, a 70 mm medium tele and a 166 mm tele.
The Mavic 4 Pro followed in May 2025. It keeps the three-camera idea but upgrades every sensor, adds a gimbal that can rotate a full 360°, and moves to DJI's O4+ transmission. You can see both generations in context in our DJI Mavic series.

Image quality for photographers
Main camera
Both drones use a 4/3-inch Hasselblad sensor, but the Mavic 4 Pro's 100 MP resolution gives five times the pixel count of the Mavic 3 Pro's 20 MP. That means more room to crop and larger prints. The brighter f/2.0 maximum aperture also helps at dawn and dusk. Note the slightly tighter 28 mm field of view compared with the Mavic 3 Pro's 24 mm.
Telephoto cameras
The 70 mm medium tele is similar on paper, both 48 MP 1/1.3-inch. The real jump is the long tele: 50 MP on a 1/1.5-inch sensor at f/2.8 versus 12 MP on a 1/2-inch sensor at f/3.4. That makes the Mavic 4 Pro's tele far more useful for compressed landscapes and distant architecture.

The Infinity Gimbal
The Mavic 4 Pro's gimbal can rotate 360° and tilt up to 70°. That enables true vertical framing without cropping, rolling reveal shots and upward angles of bridges, towers and canopies. The Mavic 3 Pro's gimbal has a more conventional range, tilting up to 35°.
Video and workflow
For filmmakers, the Mavic 4 Pro records 6K at up to 60fps with HDR, and 4K at up to 120fps for slow motion. All three cameras support 10-bit D-Log, D-Log M and HLG, so footage from each lens grades more consistently. The 512GB Creator Combo adds H.264 ALL-I recording at up to 1,200 Mbps, which is easier to edit than long-GOP files, and comes with the DJI RC Pro 2.
The Mavic 3 Pro shoots up to 5.1K/50fps and DCI 4K/120fps on its main camera. Apple ProRes was available only on the separate Mavic 3 Pro Cine, which recorded to a built-in 1 TB SSD. The Mavic 4 Pro does not list ProRes, so plan on H.264 or H.265, or ALL-I on the Creator Combo. For settings advice, read our best Mavic 4 Pro settings for 6K video.

Flight, safety and rules in India
The Mavic 4 Pro's 51-minute rated flight time gives about eight more minutes per battery than the Mavic 3 Pro, which matters for sunrise shoots when light changes quickly. Whatever the link range, Indian rules require you to keep the drone within visual line of sight.
Both drones weigh well above 250 g, so they are Micro drones under India's Drone Rules, 2021. They must be registered on DGCA's Digital Sky portal, flights must respect red, yellow and green airspace zones, and any commercial work, such as paid real-estate or wedding shoots, needs a DGCA Remote Pilot Certificate. See our DGCA drone rules guide.
Should you upgrade?
Upgrade if you sell prints or stock images, rely on the long tele, want vertical framing without cropping, or need more flight time per battery. The Mavic 4 Pro is a meaningful step up in each of those areas.
Stay with your Mavic 3 Pro if your work is mainly 4K web video from the main camera and your current results satisfy clients. It remains a strong camera platform.
