Both fold into a bag and both shoot 10-bit D-Log M, so the honest question is how much camera you actually need. The Air 3S is the sensible choice for most people. The Mavic 4 Pro is for work where the footage has to hold up on a large screen, or in a grade.

The gap that matters most is the sensor. A 4/3" chip gathers appreciably more light than a 1" one, which is what buys you cleaner shadows at dusk and more room to push a grade. The second gap is the 168mm telephoto — there is no equivalent on the Air 3S, and it is the lens that makes compression shots of ridgelines and architecture possible without cropping.
If you are shooting client work, the Mavic 4 Pro earns its price. If you are shooting for yourself, the Air 3S is close enough that the ₹1,16,000 difference is hard to justify.
At roughly 1,063 g takeoff weight, the Mavic 4 Pro sits in DGCA’s Micro category — drones over 250 g and up to 2 kg. That means the same paperwork as an Air 3S, not the heavier Small-category burden.
Since July 2025, India runs drone compliance across two linked platforms. eGCA handles registration: you will need a UIN (Unique Identification Number) for the aircraft. DigitalSky handles flight authorization, including NPNT (No Permission, No Takeoff) approval before every flight — the drone’s onboard module checks for that digital sign-off before it will arm.
For personal, non-commercial flying, a Micro-category drone needs UIN registration but not a Remote Pilot Certificate. An RPC is required once you fly commercially — and given what this aircraft costs, most Mavic 4 Pro owners are flying paid work, so budget for one. Third-party insurance is required either way.
India’s airspace is divided into green, yellow and red zones on the DigitalSky map. Green is open to Micro drones below 120 m. Yellow needs ATC clearance. Red is prohibited without central government permission. Airports, military installations and international borders carry their own standing restrictions, and these change — check the map before you travel to a shoot, not after.

The 4/3" CMOS is the largest sensor DJI has put in a foldable drone. Bigger photosites mean cleaner shadows and more latitude before noise appears, which matters far more in practice than the headline megapixel count. Hasselblad’s Natural Colour Solution handles skin tones and skies without the oversaturated look that gives cheaper drone footage away. The variable aperture runs f/2.0 to f/11, and the built-in electronic ND means you can hold a cinematic shutter angle in harsh midday light without screwing filters on and off between takes.
The ball-shaped gimbal rotates a full 360° and tilts 70° upward. Shooting upward sounds like a gimmick until you need it — under bridges, up building facades, into a canopy. Rotating the camera also gives you true vertical video without cropping a horizontal frame, and the RC Pro 2 screen rotates with it so you are framing what you will actually publish.
28mm wide, 70mm medium telephoto and 168mm telephoto, each shooting up to 4K/60fps HDR in 10-bit D-Log M. The 168mm is the one that changes how you shoot: it compresses distance, so ridgelines stack and buildings flatten in a way a wide lens simply cannot fake. Three usable focal lengths means fewer repositioning flights and less battery burned getting the shot.
Forward LiDAR plus six low-light fisheye sensors give omnidirectional obstacle sensing down to 0.1 lux. Most drones lose their collision avoidance as the light goes, exactly when you need it. This one keeps it, which is the difference between a planned blue-hour shoot and an expensive gamble.
