The 4E’s mechanical shutter is the detail that matters for survey work. It eliminates rolling-shutter distortion, which is what keeps photogrammetric accuracy intact across a large block. Paired with RTK and PPK, it is the aircraft for producing deliverables a client will measure from.
The 4T’s radiometric 640×512 thermal sensor gives temperature per pixel, not just a false-colour picture — which is the requirement for electrical, solar and building inspection reporting. The laser rangefinder adds precise distance to target, useful in SAR and asset survey.
If you deliver maps and models, buy the 4E. If you deliver thermal inspection reports, buy the 4T. Operators doing both often run one of each rather than compromising on either.
The Matrice 4E is an enterprise aircraft flown almost exclusively for commercial work, and the regulatory position reflects that. It sits well above the 250 g Nano threshold, so DGCA registration applies without exception.
You will need a UIN (Unique Identification Number) for the aircraft through eGCA, and flight authorization through DigitalSky including NPNT approval. Because operations are commercial, a Remote Pilot Certificate is mandatory for the pilot in command, and third-party insurance is required.
Survey and mapping work frequently takes place in yellow zones — near airports, industrial sites and infrastructure. Build airspace clearance into your project timeline rather than treating it as a formality on the day; coordination can take longer than the flying does.
