When it comes to drones, few names hold the same level of respect as DJI. The DJI Neo is one of its smallest and simplest camera drones: a 135 g, palm-sized drone that takes off from your hand, follows you and films in 4K. It is built for quick, close-range shots rather than long flights, which makes it one of the easiest ways to start with aerial video.

In this guide we cover the DJI Neo's specs, what it does well, where it is limited, the DJI Neo Fly More Combo, the DJI Neo price in India and whether you need to register it. Specifications are from DJI; prices and advice are HobiTech's.

DJI Neo: An Overview

The DJI Neo weighs about 135 g and shoots 12 MP photos and 4K video at 30fps. You can launch it from your palm and let it track you, fly it from the DJI Fly app on your phone, or fly it with a controller or goggles.

The DJI Neo Fly More Combo adds three batteries in total and a two-way charging hub, plus the DJI RC-N3 controller at HobiTech, so you get up to about 54 minutes of flying per outing.

DJI Neo Release Date

The DJI Neo is already launched and on sale in India. HobiTech, a genuine DJI dealer in Bengaluru, stocks the DJI Neo Fly More Combo (3 Batteries) and the DJI Neo Motion Fly More Combo, with a GST invoice and HobiTech's 1-year warranty on the drone.

DJI Neo Specs (source: DJI)

These are the key specifications DJI publishes for the DJI Neo:

Camera

A 1/2-inch sensor with an f/2.8 lens and a 117.6° field of view. It takes 12 MP photos and records 4K (3840 × 2160) video at 30fps, or 1080p at up to 60fps. There is no microSD slot: footage is stored on 22 GB of internal storage.

Stabilization

A single-axis mechanical gimbal (tilt) combined with electronic image stabilisation. It is not a 3-axis gimbal, so footage is smoothest in calm conditions. DJI rates its wind resistance at 8 m/s (Level 4).

Intelligent Flight Modes

Palm take-off and landing, subject tracking and QuickShots, all run from the DJI Fly app, so you can film yourself without a pilot.

Obstacle Sensing

The Neo has downward vision positioning only (it holds a hover 0.5–10 m above the ground). It has no forward or side obstacle sensing, so it will not stop for trees, walls or wires; fly it in open spaces. If you need sensing in every direction, look at the DJI Neo 2.

DJI Neo Battery and Flight Time

Up to about 18 minutes per battery (about 17 minutes with the propeller guards fitted), per DJI. The DJI Neo Fly More Combo includes three batteries, so you get up to about 54 minutes of flying per outing.

Portability

At about 135 g, the DJI Neo is palm-sized and fits in a jacket pocket or small bag, whether you are hiking or heading out for a quick weekend shoot.

DJI Neo Controller Compatibility

You can fly the Neo from the DJI Fly app on your phone. For stick control, the DJI Neo Fly More Combo at HobiTech includes the DJI RC-N3. For first-person flying, the DJI Neo Motion Fly More Combo pairs the Neo with DJI Goggles N3 and the DJI RC Motion 3, which you steer by moving your hand.

Satellite Positioning

GPS, Galileo and BeiDou. Our Bengaluru service team notes that its GPS is weaker than on larger DJI drones, so wait for a strong signal in the DJI Fly app before you take off outdoors.

Durability and Build Quality

With its propeller guards fitted, the Neo is safer to fly close to people and indoors. Our in-house repair lab in Bengaluru can fix knocks and crashes if they happen.

DJI Neo Price in India

The DJI Neo is one of DJI's lowest-cost drones. See the current HobiTech price, shown before GST, on the DJI Neo Fly More Combo page; the price includes three batteries, the charging hub and the RC-N3 controller.

What to Expect When You Fly It

The DJI Neo is at its best for close-range clips: launch it from your palm, let it follow you, and use a QuickShot for a cinematic reveal. Advice from our Bengaluru service team:

  • Keep it close. It is built for close-range shots, not long-distance flights, and at 135 g it gets pushed around by wind.
  • Charge gently. Use a lower-power charger rather than a high-wattage fast charger, to keep the batteries healthy for longer.
  • Flying indoors? Pick a large, open, well-lit room. GPS is weak inside buildings, so the Neo holds position with its downward camera.

It does not have the larger sensors, 3-axis gimbals or all-round obstacle sensing of DJI's Mini, Air or Mavic drones. That is the trade-off for its size and price.

Who Is the DJI Neo For?

  • Beginners and hobbyists: palm take-off, subject tracking and a light, guarded frame make it an easy first drone.
  • Content creators and vloggers: it films you hands-free in 4K for social media clips.
  • Travellers: at 135 g it goes anywhere without adding weight to your bag.
  • Not ideal for: long-range flights, windy locations or professional survey work, where a larger drone is the better tool.

Do You Need to Register the DJI Neo in India?

Yes. At 135 g the Neo is a nano drone under India's Drone Rules, 2021, so you do not need a Remote Pilot Certificate. Like every drone, it must be registered on the DGCA Digital Sky platform and given a Unique Identification Number (UIN) before you fly it, and you should check the airspace map for green, yellow and red zones before each flight.

DJI Neo Fly More Combo: Is It Worth It?

For most buyers, yes. With one battery you get about 18 minutes in the air; the Fly More Combo's three batteries and two-way charging hub give you up to about 54 minutes per outing, and at HobiTech it includes the RC-N3 controller.

If you plan to film regularly, the extra batteries cut the waiting between flights and give you more flexibility in the field.

Want to fly first-person? The DJI Neo Motion Fly More Combo adds DJI Goggles N3 and the DJI RC Motion 3 to the Neo, with three batteries and a charging hub, so you see through the drone and steer it by moving your hand.

Final Thoughts on the DJI Neo

The DJI Neo is a simple, light and low-cost way into aerial video. Its limits are real: short flights, no forward or side obstacle sensing and a single-axis gimbal. But for palm-launched selfies, travel clips and a first drone, it does exactly what it promises.
